I came across this interesting little guy (or lady) while hiking with friends in southern Utah. It’s a Yellow-Headed Collared Lizard (Crotaphytus collaris auriceps). This image was captured with my Canon EOS 5D Mark II with a 70-200mm f/4L IS lens and 1.4x tele-converter, hand-held.

Great WB. I like this little guy.

Cool! Are the lizards in full force in Taos? Down in Tucson, we got more lizards running around town than I’ve ever seen before. Maybe our cat population is declining…
Estevan, Thanks for the comment. I took a quick look at your site last night. It looks like you are enjoying the camera.
Laurent, We don’t have many lizards in Taos. I believe it gets too cold for them in the winter. It would be interesting to know why your lizard population has increased.
Best,
Adam
Wow Adam………he is gorgeous! How big was this guy? Great shot, feel like I am right there staring at him. I love how the curve of the rock follows the curve of the lizard…..really draws you in to the shot.
Perfect DOF. He was a real poser.
I’d say that this lizard was approximately 12″ from nose to tail. Thanks for your comments.
He’s adorable and fits in with the “southwest colors” scheme of life.
He most definitely has a flair for the southwest.
Such a great shot. It was nice of the lizard to pose for you. And I’m VERY glad the canine in the sunset shot didn’t scare him awat.
