Thank you veterans

It’s a bit late in the day, but I’d like to take a minute to thank all veterans for your service to our country and for the sacrifice that you and your families have made. I’d like to extend an extra special thanks to my granddad who served his country in World War II as an U.S. Army paratrooper, was a P.O.W.  and went onto retire from the United States Air Force. After his time in the military he continued to serve those in uniform and their families as a Civil Service employee working for the National Cemeteries.

In the photo below, General Dwight D. Eisenhower gives the order of the Day. ‘Full victory-nothing else’ to paratroopers in England on the eve of D-Day. My granddad is in this iconic photo.

Thanks for recognizing your Grandad in such a wonderful way. There will never be another generation of Americans as his to sacrifice the way they did. Sally’s dad is the same generation. I have so much respect for them and the price they paid. The picture of Eisenhower is with the 101st Airborne which the series ‘Band of Brothers’ was based on. We can never say thank you enough to your Grandads’ generation.

    Thanks again.

  2. Thank you Bob for leaving a comment and thank you for your service.

My dad (Adam’s grandad) is the young man right at Ike’s chin. He was in the 82nd Airborne and had worked his way forward to see Ike give his speech, for some reason those in history only recognized the 101st as being in this picture, but he was “one of many” I’m proud of my dad for being a 19 year old and going fearlessly into battle so that all of us here in the USA could continue to be “BORN FREE”
