The fall chipped two corners and left many scratches. 15 minutes later I dropped the lens cap to my new 70-200 f/4L IS and it (the cap) fell into a crack never to be seen again. The cap was a minor loss but I was terrified of damaging the front element of the lens without it. Thanks for your comments. I look forward to seeing your new images.
