Next month when I’m at the Grand Canyon, I will spend a portion of my time working with kids from the local school. I have volunteered to lead them on a nature walk that will have a photography theme to it. I’m hoping to work with 10 to 20 kids at a time and I expect them to be paired-up and share cameras.
What I’m looking for right now are used point-n-shoot digital cameras to loan to the kids. If you have any cameras laying around the house that are not being used, I would put them to good use with the kids. I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide. Ideally I’m looking for cameras that run on AA batteries and use SD memory cards, but I’m happy to accept just about anything. If you can donate a camera, please let me know here on my blog, or feel free to email me.
Update 2/3/2009: Canon USA got the ball rolling by donating two PowerShot SX100 IS cameras! Thank you Canon. Taos artist Desiree Hodges has donated a camera and memory card. Peter and Judy Butcher of Taos have also donated a camera as well as a Canon PIXMA Pro 9000 printer with extra inks and paper. Thank you to Desiree, Judy and Peter for your generous donations.
Update 2/7/2009: I have had several other generous people offer up their old cameras including Doris Burdick and Ray Still. A big thanks to both of you.
Another camera is on it’s way! Thank you, Doris.
This is a great thing you are doing Adam! Wish I had a camera to donate. Have you posted a similar request at places such as Luminous Landscape, Photo.net, or Fred Miranda? I’ve seen similar requests on other forums and people usually rally behind worthy causes. Worth a try!
Thanks Phil. I’ll give the other forums a try. Thanks again for the suggestion.
What a wonderful program that you are offering to the kids! Much success in this endeavor!! I will certainly pass the word along about needing those cameras!! Good Luck.
Hi Sarah,
Thank you and I appreciate you passing the word along.
