Exactly one year ago today, I gave up soda. I don’t smoke, drink (alcoholic beverages), or do drugs, but I had a serious soda habit. Near the end I was drinking a 32 or 44 ounce fountain drink at lunch, a 20 ounce drink at dinner and a couple 12 ounce cans in the evening. Yuck! I lived in a perpetual state of feeling like crap.
You might ask, what made me stop? Two things. The first was that I had just been selected to be an Artist-in-Residence at Grand Canyon National Park and I wanted to be in better shape so that I could spend more time hiking the canyon. The second, and most important reason was my wife, Sally.
It was tough to give up, but I sure do feel better for doing it and I’ve saved a ton of money to boot!
congratulations and well done…. indeed, such things are tough
Desiree,
Thank you. It’s amazing how the cravings no longer bother me like they did as recent as a few months ago. I’m sure you will be glad that you won’t have to hear me say “I want a Coke” as often as I used to.
That’s wonderful babe! As soon as I get off of the night shift I intend to do the same, slowly backing away now…decaf tea and lots of water, but no longer the route 44’s like I used to do, not easy, but you set a great example…Love you!
Congrats!
For health reasons, you ought to drink some red wine on occasion. It’s good for the heart…
But I’m glad to hear that you are vice free.
All that can be said is CONGRATS!!!
Good for you, Adam! I recently gave up alcohol and find I don’t really miss it much. But I have to draw the line at chocolate! MMmmmm. Sweet, smooth, delicious, chocolate!!!!
Wow! I don’t think I could be that strong. I love my Pepsi, but I don’t drink them that much because of $$$. How do you feel about coffee? BTW…Keep up the good work!
I’d like to thank everyone for your wonderful comments and words of encouragement.
Brian,
I’ll consider the red wine.
Phil,
I wish you the very best. It’s good to hear that you don’t miss it (very much). Like you, chocolate is something I could never give up.
Estevan,
I wouldn’t have been strong enough to give it up without the help of family and friends. I’m not into coffee. I used to drink it, but haven’t in many years. It’s amazing how much money can be saved by giving up a stupid habit or overcoming addiction.
Hey Adam,
I didn’t realize you had given it up! I know how much you “loved” it, so I’m really proud of you!! Good Job! Hope you and Sally are doing good! Love and miss you guys!
Hi Tammie,
Thank you so much! We’re doing well. Stop by sometime and say “hi”. We still need to get together for dinner.
