My constant companion, the Common Raven (Corvus corax) is a common sight in the southwest U.S.A. Typically seen in pairs, often playful and displaying amazingly spirited acrobatic feats, they are a joy to watch.
I happen to believe that they are curious about photographers as I have had several up close and personal encounters with ravens lately. The photo to the right illustrates one example at the Grand Canyon where this raven made several passes in-front of me and my camera.
Another example would be this image from Grand Falls on the Little Colorado River. Again, a raven made several passes by me and my camera. His (or her) final pass was just below my perch on a cliff with the chocolate brown falls of the Little Colorado River in the background and with a bit of a rainbow in the mist.
In my travels across the southwest I always look forward to seeing ravens and enjoying their antics. Next time you’re out among the ravens, I suggest taking a moment (or two) to observe these incredibly intelligent and amusing feathered spirits of the southwest.

Hi Adam!
I’m so glad you wrote about the Ravens! I have a deep spiritual connection to Ravens which is why they are the namesake for my photography endeavors. The Raven represents introspection, courage, and self-knowledge. Some say, when the Raven appears it is a sign that something special or unexpected will occur. The Raven also signifies an positive shift in consciousness. It is no coincidence that the Ravens seek you out! Your awareness draws them and they serve as messengers to you. Listen carefully!

These are wonderful shots – especially the raven over the canyon! I love the layers in that photo….
That Raven and Grand Falls shot is one of my favorite things I’ve seen in a while, Adam! Made my day!
Wow! I guess the raven photos really struck a cord with everyone. I appreciate your comments and thoughts.
