> About the Photographer
Adam Schallau was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1974. Adam’s photography explores a variety of topics that include the landscape, culture and people of the American Southwest and Rocky Mountains. It is with a profound respect for the land, its people and their history that Adam sets out to recapture the spirit of a place to tell a story through his photography.

Adam’s photography has appeared in magazines, travel publications & guides, calendars, and websites including Photographing the Southwest Volume 3 – A guide to the natural landmarks of Colorado & New Mexico, Taos Green Guide, New Mexico Magazine, Su Casa Magazine, Recreation Guide to Northern New Mexico, and The Luminous Landscape. His photography has also been used in support of environmental & conservation awareness issues.  Adam’s work has been exhibited everywhere from fine-art galleries, to national parks and a state capitol.

In addition to creating photography, Adam shares his eternal passion with others by teaching the art and craft of digital photography to amateur and advanced photographers. Adam also teaches digital-darkroom technique and fine-art printing to both amateurs and traditional film photographers that desire to make the transition from film to the digital-darkroom. In addition, Adam offers his fine-art printing service to other photographers and artists in Taos, and northern New Mexico.

Adam is an active participant in several major on-line communities including the Luminous Landscape, the Travel Photographers Network and the Nature Photographers Network. For several years, Adam served as moderator for the Rocky Mountain Nature Photographers on-line community. During his time as moderator he established and coordinated a recurring exhibit of member’s photography at Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve.

Adam has received numerous awards and accolades including being selected as a winner in the National Wildlife Magazine, 2005 photography contest, and in 2007, New Mexico Magazine chose Adam as the winner of their photography contest. In 2008, Adam was one of the first eight photographers ever to be awarded the Luminous Landscape Endowment Fund, a fund designed to provide financial assistance to photographers to help finance worthwhile photographic projects, which is helping to support his Big Bend-Santa Elena Canyon project. Most recently, it was announced that he would be an Artist-in-Residence, one of only three in the 2008-2009 season, on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Adam is also a Lowepro sponsored photographer.

> A Quick Thought About Photography
There are a lot of photographers out there and even more photos, but I think Cactus Ed said it best: “Our job is to record, each in his own way, this world of light and shadow and time that will never come again exactly as it is today.” ~ Edward Abbey
