Guy on the Edge at Grand Canyon

Guy on the Edge at Grand Canyon

I was shooting from Yavapai Point a couple of nights ago when this guy climbs over the railing and steps down onto an incredibly tiny outcropping of rock. Crazy! His name is Vofka and he is from the Ukraine. Really great guy and has tons of confidence. He is also incredibly patient. I asked to [...]

Happy Birthday, Dad

Happy Birthday, Dad

Dad, here is a sunrise shot from Mather Point here at the Grand Canyon. It was captured this morning in your honor. I hope you enjoy. Happy Birthday!
Now I know that what parents really want are pictures of their kids. So Dad, here are a few of me here at Grand Canyon National Park.

Feathered Spirits, Ravens of the Southwest

Feathered Spirits, Ravens of the Southwest

My constant companion, the Common Raven (Corvus corax) is a common sight in the southwest U.S.A. Typically seen in pairs, often playful and displaying amazingly spirited  acrobatic feats, they are a joy to watch.
I happen to believe that they are curious about photographers as I have had several up close and personal encounters with ravens [...]

Sunset from Desert View, Grand Canyon National Park

Sunset from Desert View, Grand Canyon National Park

One of my favorite spots on the rim of the Grand Canyon is Desert View. Located on the South Rim at the east end of the park, Desert View offers vistas to the north looking up the Colorado River and also to the west, looking back towards Grand Canyon Village. There are excellent opportunities for [...]

A Winter Scene, Grand Canyon National Park

A Winter Scene, Grand Canyon National Park

This past Saturday I awoke to discover that winter has not quite given up on the desert southwest just yet. We had a couple inches of snow fall in the canyon early in the morning, but by mid-day, most of it was gone.
I’d like to thank one of my sponsors, Vortex Media, their Storm Jacket [...]

Sunrise to sunset, one end to another, and a hike into the canyon. That was my day today. I began my day by getting up a little before 5:30 to drive out to the east end of the park near Desert View for sunrise. All went well, There were a few nice wispy clouds and [...]

Light on the Temples, Grand Canyon National Park

Light on the Temples, Grand Canyon National Park

Two nights ago I was photographing sunset from a spot on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon between Yavapai Observation Station and Mather Point when the sun broke through the clouds and illuminated Zoroaster and Brahma Temples. The light lasted just a few seconds and I literally got off one shot before it was [...]

Yaki Point Sunrise, Grand Canyon National Park

Yaki Point Sunrise, Grand Canyon National Park

Sunrise from Yaki Point on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. In this image we are looking down onto the popular South Kaibab Trail and Cedar Ridge.
This was one of my first images captured using the Live View feature of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II. I used Live View primarily to check [...]

Sunrise from Mather Point, Sunset from Yaki Point

Sunrise from Mather Point, Sunset from Yaki Point

Today was my first full day at the Grand Canyon. I shot sunrise from a location just west of Mather Point on a ledge that protrudes into the canyon.  Sunrise at the Grand Canyon is an event that I believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience at least once in their life. It’s a [...]
